From 1 October 2026 the energy price cap rises again. Ofgem set the typical dual-fuel Direct Debit figure at £1,723 a year, about 4% higher than the July to September cap.
Most of that increase is gas. The typical gas unit rate moves from 7.33p to 7.97p per kWh. The daily gas standing charge also edges up. If you are on a fixed tariff you are not on this cap until the fix ends. Ofgem’s figure is an average for a typical home, not your exact bill.
We do not sell energy. We cannot switch your tariff. What we can say, as the people who work on the boilers in Marlow homes, is this: the cap is the price of the gas you burn. A boiler that is overdue a service, a system full of sludge, or an old unit short-cycling will burn more of that dearer gas than it should.
A service will not cancel a 4% cap rise. It can stop avoidable waste and it keeps most manufacturer guarantees valid. A new A-rated boiler can cut gas use in the right house. It is not a grant, and the Boiler Upgrade Scheme is not money for a like-for-like gas swap.
